FELICITATS JOSEP!!

Key facts:
◦ Last Saturday, Josep Carreras held a concert at the Pavellão Atlântico in Lisbon, to celebrate the 75th anniversary of Renascença, a main national radio station in Portugal. The tenor performed also with the north-american soprano Ailyn Pérez and the Fado protuguese singer Carminho, together with the Lisbon Sinfonietta Orchestra conducted by David Giménez.
As Josep had previously announced the program would be based on opera, zarzuela, italian and neapolitan songs, and something typically portuguese too, since he was very happy to perform again in Portugal, where he has always appreciated the kindess and cordiality of people, a part from gastronomy.
I just would like to thank someone for her testimony, for sharing the details of this concert, as articles came out a bit late.
◦ After L'Arlesienne Suite Farandole played by the Orchestra, Josep Carreras started with L'Ultima Canzone and Vurria, wonderfully interpreted as underlined in one of the articles above, even though his vocal current conditions don't represent a young singer anymore, but this sounds so obvious, doesn't it? He put the same passion in the inerpretation of Rosó (Pel teu amor), with whom he shares the homeland. In the first duet of the show, he sang a particular version of Schubert's Ave Maria due to Carminho's contribution. After the second orchestral moment with Der Zigeunerbaron Ouverture by Strauss, an energic rendition of The Impossible Dream marked the end of the first part, in which also the great soprano, Ailyn Pérez, performed with two operatic pieces: Quando me'n vo, from La Bohème, and Je Veux Vivre from Roméo et Juliette.
◦ Before continuing with the second part, Josep Carreras addressed to the audience, sharing his great honour for having been called to take part into such celebration, the 75th anniversary of Renascença, a referential radio station in Portugal. Then he sang Passione, a title that reflects the very essence of the song that fits Carreras perfectly, as demonstrated in Lisbon once again. Immediatly after, Carminho offered her version of Pedras da minha rua, and then she joined Carreras in another duet, Pomba Branca. In addition to the great surprise of Musica Proibita, another great moment signed by Ailyn Pérez with the song Júrame, before singing with Josep Carreras El dúo (y jota) de la Africana. Before this duet, the Orchestra performed alone for the third time of the evening, playing La Boda de Luís Alonso (Intermezzo), conducted by David Giménez. A song each for the two opera singers: De España Vengo sung by the soprano, and Core 'ngrato for the tenor, because there could not be a more intense ending.
◦ Six encores: Carreras started with Chitarra Romana, while the soprano chose I could have danced all night, and Carminho performed in a Fado song. One more duet for Carreras and Pérez who sang together Non ti scordar di me: during this very duet, Ailyn Pérez took Carreras by surprise making him dance for a while. It must have been funny, but probably not for Josep who normally does not like dancing. Then, the tenor offered a wonderful rendition of the neapolitan song Torna a Surriento, and the concert finished with a trio version of the Brindis from La Traviata: even though Carreras tried to encourage her, Carminho, who stayed in the middle, didn't really contribute to the song. So, another great concert in this 2012... no matter some problem due to harsh amplification!! Congratulations Josep!!!
