Press conference in Palma de Mallorca for the first José Carreras International Yacht Race to support the fight against leukaemia

Ieri Josep Carreras si trovava a Palma de Mallorca in occasione della prima regata benefica a favore della sua Fondazione, avviata il 28 luglio: il tenore ha partecipato quest'oggi ad una conferenza stampa e in serata avrebbe reso omaggio ai vincitori durante la cerimonia per le premiazioni.


Carreras è rimasto molto soddisfatto dall'appoggio che ha ricevuto questa iniziativa organizzata da Bavaria Yachts: chiunque volesse poteva prenderne parte apportando una donazione, e tra i partecipanti vi erano anche noti personaggi tra attori e presentatori tedeschi. Considera una magnifica idea l'unione dello sport al lavoro della sua Fondazione che, non ha risentito della crisi in merito alle donazioni ricevute, aumentando addirittura il numero di soci. Solo nelle Baleari si contano 10 soci della Fondazione e 2.500 donatori di midollo osseo.
Attraverso iniziative come questa regata, la sua Fondazione si propone di raccogliere fondi per finanziare la ricerca scientifica, sviluppare progetti affinché la leucemia diventi un giorno una malattia curabile nel 100% dei casi.


Sempre nel corso della conferenza stampa ha espresso parere contrario all'aumento dell'IVA nei biglietti per il cinema ed altri spettacoli approvato dal Governo Spagnolo: "...non vorrei entrare in certi argomenti, ma di certo posso dire che uccidere la cultura di un paese è come uccidere i suoi stessi abitanti abbassando il loro tenore di vita" ha affermato.

L'attività della Fondazione cammina parallelamente con la sua carriera professionale, pur essendo indipendenti. In tal proposito, Carreras ha accennato anche al suo futuro professionale: dopo tre settimane di vacanza, il tenore offrirà un recital parte del celeberrimo Festival di Salisburgo, il più importante del mondo, ma conta anche di esibirsi in Spagna tra settembre e l'anno prossimo, in Germania, Stati Uniti e Asia. Nel frattempo, sta preparando il suo ritorno operistico con una nuova opera del compositore austriaco Christian Kolonovits, ispirata alla Guerra Civile Spagnola, che inaugurerà a Vienna tra il 2013 e 2014. "Può essere molto interessante sia in termini di libretto sia di musica, e spero che piaccia al pubblico e agli appassionati di opera" ha detto il tenore.

Oltre a manifestare ancora una volta un grande amore per la sua professione, ben consapevole del privilegio che comporta potersi esprimere su di un palcoscenico, Carreras rivolge parole di affetto e grande ammirazione per il suo grande amico e collega Juan Pons, congedatosi dalle scene operistiche pochi giorni fa dopo 42 anni di gloriosa carriera: "Ho sempre provato per lui una profonda ammirazione e una profonda e sincera amicizia, è un  cantante straordinario ed una persona di grande umanità, con cui ho condiviso il palco in diverse occasioni in Spagna come a Vienna o a New York", ha dichiarato il tenore catalano.

◦ Today Josep Carreras was in Palma de Mallorca due to the first José Carreras International Yacht Race, started on last July 28 to benefit his Foundation: the tenor took part to the press conference and tonight has attended the awarding ceremony. 
He said to be very satisfied for the support received by this initiative, organised by Bavaria Yachts, which everybody could join with a donation, and among the participants there were also german celebrities. He considers a wonderful idea linking sports to the activity of his foundation: he emphasised that, besides the crisis, it has increased the number of donations and members. Only in Balearic Islands there are 10 members and 2500 bone marrow donors. Through such initiatives the Foundation aims to support scientific research and develops projects so that leukemia can be a 100% curable disease one day. 
◦ During the press conference he proved contrary to the increase of VAT on cinema tickets and other shows approved by the Spanish Government: according to him "killing the culture of a country is killing its people and lower their quality of life". 
◦ The activity of the Foundation and the tenor's professional career walk in parallel, but are independent. Carreras has also talked about his future plans: after a three week- holidays he is going to perform at the Salzburg Festival, the most important ever, but he might also perform in Spain between September and next year, in Germany, United States and Asia. In the meantime he is preparing his operatic comeback with a new opera of the austrian composer Christan Kolonovits, about the Spanish Civil War, to be premiered between 2013 and 2014: "It can be very interesting in terms of libretto and music and I hope it will please the public and opera fans" Carreras said. 
◦ Later he expressed once again, his love for his profession: "True luxury in life is that your profession is also your vocation, this is certainly a privilege and I have always felt a very lucky person in this sense. Every time I go on stage I think I am a very lucky person and that makes life more attractive", the tenor said. 
◦ Josep Carreras also had some praising words to his "friend and great collegue" for almost 40 years, the Menorcan baritone Joan Pons, who left with a final performance at the Liceu, last Monday: "I've always felt a great admiration for him and a very sincere and deep friendship, he is an extraordinary singer and a man of human quality, with whom I shared the stage several times, in Spain, Vienna and New York," he said.
