JOSEP CARRERAS: LA MÁGICA DESPEDIDA DE BUENOS AIRES EN EL LUNA PARK

Josep Carreras' South-American Tour: 4 concerts done; 6 still to go.

On Saturday night Josep Carreras said good-bye to his beloved city of Buenos Aires, which he had been declared Guest of Honor of a few days before, with a wonderful concert at the almost sold-out Luna Park, together with soprano Jaquelina Livieri and the Orquesta Lírica de Buenos Aires conducted by David Giménez.

The legendary tenor was warmly welcomed from his first arrival on stage. The audience, which he had often described as the most enthusiastic of the world, was enchanted by his superb renditions of songs like Canción Húngara, Pecché, The Impossible Dream, Passione, Serenata Sincera and especially got touched by Lejana Tierra Mía and El día que me quieras by Carlos Gardel which Carreras specially selected for this concert in Argentina.

Jaquelina Livieri showed her remarkable talent with Je veux vivre, Arditi's Il Bacio and joined Carreras in Satie's Je te veux and the second part medley (full video), which included excerpts from opera, zarzuela, operetta, songs and musicals including L'Ultima Canzone, Tonight, Meine Lippen Sie küssen so heiß, Lippen Schweigen, Rosó, Canción de Paloma, Ya mis horas felices, Vesti la giubba, and Brindisi from La Traviata.

David Giménez guided the Orchestra in solo performances such as Shostakovich's Jazz Suite Waltz no.2 and Jiménez's La Boda de Luis Alonso (Intermezzo).

Several encores were added to the official programs: Carreras sang Chitarra Romana, Core n'grato and the already mentioned tribute to Gardel, El día que me quieras, while Livieri sang O mio babbino caro and I could have danced all night, before joining the tenor in the final duet, Amigos para siempre (Friends for Life).

Here below you have a few summarizing videos from YouTube. More from Twitter.

Tonight they will sing once more in Argentina with a very special concert at the Teatro El Círculo in Rosario, both Jaquelina Livieri and Lionel Messi's hometown, which makes it a very special context.
